New to Windridge & Vermont?
While we hire many Vermonters, the majority of our staff come from somewhere else. Camp can be a new experience for many, not just our campers! We're here to help make the transition easy. Below are answers to some of the most common questions staff have about living and working at camp and in Vermont. If you cannot find the answer you're looking for, please contact us!
Windridge is located in a rural part of Vermont where cellular reception is not available on camp property, and we are a tech-free camp for our campers. Staff are welcome to have phones and devices, but personal device use is for your free time only — when you're working, your full attention should be on your campers.
Cell phones, laptops, and other Wi-Fi devices are permitted in designated areas only. The staff lounge is available during your free periods and nights off, and the dining hall can be used after campers have gone to bed in the evening if you are off-duty. High-speed internet is available in the staff lounge and dining hall.
If you need cellular service, the nearby town of Northfield is just a short drive away.

Mail will available in the main office, you will be notified when it has arrived by office staff.
We have laundry facilities on site for both campers and staff. You'll get a full walkthrough of the washing machines and dryers during your orientation tour.
While campers are in session, you will receive a schedule of blackout dates when the machines are reserved for camper laundry. On those days, you are welcome to do your laundry in the evening — just make sure it is completed and removed before breakfast the following morning.
Laundry detergent should be stored in the staff lounge, not in camper cabins. Support staff may keep detergent in their own cabins.
Northfield is a 10 minute drive from camp. In Northfield, there are restaurants, a bank and ATM, gas station, pharmacy, post office, coffee shop, and Dollar Store. Montpelier (30 minutes by car) is the capital of Vermont and has a wider selection of shops, including a WalMart. Burlington is the largest city in the area. It is an hour away and a very popular shopping destination. The Roxbury Country Store is just down the road from camp, along with a post office and small library - all of which you can walk to during your free time.
There are lots of options! Some of the popular choices are; trips to Burlington, local hikes and campgrounds, shopping in Montpelier or Burlington, swimming and relaxing at the Warren Falls, visiting Stowe, etc. We will have more information about local places to visit during orientation.
Vermont summers are warm and pleasant, with temperatures typically ranging from the mid-60s to the low 80s°F (18–28°C) — one of the most beautiful times of year to be in the state. Mornings and evenings can be cooler, sometimes dipping into the 50s°F (10–15°C), so it's worth packing a few layers even for July and August.
Rain is fairly common throughout the summer, so a good rain jacket is a camp essential. Humidity is generally moderate and comfortable, though warm and humid days do occur, sometimes with afternoon thunderstorms during the hottest stretches. Overall it's a fantastic climate for an active outdoor summer!
