Travel to Windridge

Please note: Windridge does not provide camp transportation of any kind, including charter bus and airport pickup/drop-off, on the closing day of our shorter Rookie Session. Families are responsible for arranging their camper's transportation to and from camp on this day.

PERSONAL CAR

*We ask that campers arrive and depart between 9am and 11am on opening and closing day. Cabin meetings start at 11:15am.

Our physical address is 1215 Roxbury Road, Roxbury, VT 05669. Rural Vermont addresses can be tricky for GPS given that cell service is not fully reliable for the final stretch (especially from Lovers Lane on). If you load the address into your GPS ahead of time, it should continue to guide you to camp even where cell service drops.

Campers and their families arriving by car will be greeted at the parking area by our staff. They will direct you to the check-in desk for registration. There you will turn in spending money, airline tickets, all devices (including smartwatches), and passports and confirm departure plans. 

As part of our check-in process, your child will visit with the nurse for a health screening and guardians will have the chance to meet with our health center staff to go over any questions or concerns. Once checked in, parents and guardians may escort their camper to their cabin to get settled in.

Directions from the south:

• Connecticut, New York and New Jersey: Take Interstate 91 North to White River Junction, VT and pick up Interstate 89 North (toward Barre).
• Boston: Take I-93 North to I-89 in Concord, NH to White River Junction, VT and continue up Interstate 89 North (toward Barre).
• Follow I-89 to Exit 5 in Vermont (Northfield) and turn left off the exit ramp. Take Rt. 64-W down the hill toward Northfield to the STOP sign (about 3 miles). Go straight across Rt. 12 and continue straight on the dirt road (Lovers Lane) for approx. ½ mile. At the end of Lovers Lane, turn left onto Rt. 12A. Windridge is about 5 miles south on the left hand side.

Directions from the north:

• Burlington, VT and Montreal: Take I-89 South to Exit 5 (Northfield) and turn right. Take Rt. 64-W down the hill toward Northfield to the STOP sign (about 3 miles). Go straight across Rt. 12 and continue straight on the dirt road (Lovers Lane) for approx. ½ mile. At the end of Lovers Lane, turn left onto Rt. 12A. Windridge is about 5 miles south on the left hand side.

Approximate driving times: Boston 3 hours, New York City 5 hours, Montreal 2½ hours, Hartford 3 hours, Burlington 1 hour.

CHARTER BUS

*This option is for campers traveling from the New York and Connecticut area.
Windridge hires a coach bus to transport campers to and from camp on opening and closing day of our regular session. Please note this service is not available on Rookie Session closing day. 

The bus departs from the Manhattan area, with stops in Darien and Hartford, CT. Counselors are on board to supervise, entertain, and make this a fun and sociable trip.

To reserve a space for your child, please complete and return the required TRAVEL AND CHARTER BUS FORM and form 3-a) Bus/Shuttle Bus Pick Up Authorization in CampInTouch. Space is limited and there is an additional fee for this service.

• The bus has a restroom on board, and campers will also have the opportunity to use restrooms at each stop.
• Campers will have the opportunity to disembark at stops to eat, stretch, and use vending machines if they'd like — bring a few dollars in cash or a card.
• The campers will have lunch at camp upon arrival.
• The bus has luggage storage and staff will be on hand to help load and unload baggage.
• Windridge staff provides age-appropriate movies, but campers may use electronic devices on the bus. All devices will be collected by camp staff upon arrival and returned on closing day.
• Our office will send out communication before opening day with staff names and confirmation of camper pick ups.

Pickup times on opening day:

• New York City: Metropolitan Museum of Art (front). Please arrive by 6:45AM for a 7:00 AM departure.

• Darien, CT.: First rest area north of exit 12 on I-95 (N). Please arrive by 8:00AM for an 8:15 AM departure.

• Hartford, CT.: Exit 24 on I-91 (N), Wethersfield, CT., in the Comfort Inn parking lot. Please arrive by 9:00AM, the bus will depart buy 9:15 AM.

Drop off times on closing day:
*These times are approximations and can change due to departure time, traffic, and other delays. We will try to be in touch with updated times as the day progresses.

• Hartford, CT.: Exit 24 on I-91 (S), Wethersfield, CT., in the Comfort Inn parking lot around 11:30 AM.

• Darien, CT.: First rest area south of exit 10 on I-95 (S) around 1:15 PM.

• NYC: Metropolitan Museum of Art (front) between 2:30 and 3:00PM

COMMERCIAL AIRLINE

Commercial airlines have direct service to Burlington, VT (BTV) from Logan in Boston, O’Hare in Chicago, Dulles in Washington, JFK in New York City and Newark in New Jersey. 

We meet campers, assist with baggage, and provide ground transportation to Windridge from the Burlington Airport and Logan Airport in Boston (BOS) on opening day and will return them to the airport on closing day.

• Arrivals to Burlington (BTV), we request that you schedule flights to arrive by noon or as close to that time as possible.

• Arrivals to Logan in Boston (BOS), please schedule flights to arrive in Boston between 1 PM and 5 PM or as close to that time as possible.

• Departures from Burlington (BTV), should be booked to depart before noon or as close to that time as possible.

• Departures from Logan in Boston (BOS), should be scheduled after 12 PM and not the last flight of the day.

• Return trip tickets or e-ticket confirmation should be secured by you in advance and must be received by us on opening day.

For campers traveling as Unaccompanied Minors, (UM): UM requirements vary by airline, so families should confirm the rules and fees with their carrier when making reservations. A proof of purchase for the UM fee in each direction should be requested. Please send Cory a copy of this proof of purchase or the airline will require us to pay the UM fee for your camper’s return journey. 

The airline will ask who is meeting the camper at the airport. Please designate Ramsey Hoehn, Camp Director, as the person meeting the camper. We give all drivers a letter authorizing them to pick up campers as an agent of the camp. Ramsey Hoehn signs the letter and staff members show a picture ID card that matches the identification number in the authorization letter before they are allowed to pick up the camper. 

In order for this transportation to run smoothly, please send us a complete and accurate flight itinerary as soon as tickets are booked and upload all travel information into CampInTouch.

PRIVATE PLANE

The Berlin, VT airport is the closest private plane airport for your convenience and is located 20 minutes from Windridge. If you need to arrange transportation from the Berlin airport to camp, please notify the office.

CONFIRMATION OF ARRIVAL

We know dropping off your camper can be nerve-wracking. Please feel free to contact our office 802.485.5400 anytime. Once campers have arrived safely, our office will send a confirmation email. We encourage parents who are sending their child to camp by bus or commercial transportation to call the office three hours after your child’s scheduled arrival time if you have not yet heard from us. We will also begin to post pictures on the CampInTouch portal on the first day of camp.

CLOSING DAY

Most of our campers leave early on closing day for the airport and the bus. If you are picking up your child at camp, please arrive between 9:00 am and 11:00 am. Our staff get some much needed time off as soon as the last camper leaves.

Reminder: Camp transportation, including the charter bus, the Noank Marina shuttle and airport shuttles, runs only on the closing day of each regular session. It does not run on Rookie Camp closing days, so Rookie Camp families will need to pick up their camper at camp.
