What a Horseback Riding Camp in Vermont Actually Costs, and What's Included

The Horseback Riding Major at Windridge costs $1,450 per session, added to regular session tuition of $5,780 for 2027. That brings a full session with the Riding Major to $7,230 before any discounts.

If you're comparing riding camps, the price on the page rarely tells the whole story. Some camps bundle riding into tuition, some charge by the lesson, and some add barn fees later. Here is exactly what riding at Windridge costs and what that fee covers.

What the $1,450 includes

  • Two riding periods every day of an eight period camp day, so riding is a real focus, not a once a week activity
  • A horse show at the end of each session in which campers display what they have learned in a supportive environment.
  • Horses suited to every level, leased from Pond Hill, the same farm that has supplied our 22-stall barn since 1986
  • Four rings: three outdoor rings (one sand, two grass) and an indoor sand arena beside the barn, so rain doesn't cancel riding
  • Instruction from our riding staff, led by our Riding Director
  • Loaner boots and helmets if your camper needs them
  • Stable Management an optional elective for riding majors where interested campers can spend more time with the horses in the barn

What campers still get outside the barn

Riding takes two periods. The other six belong to the rest of camp: tennis, soccer, golf, and everything else a Windridge day holds. Riders are full campers, living in cabins, eating in the dining hall, and competing in Teela Games with everyone else.

The indoor riding ring at Windridge means campers can still ride in bad weather.

Can beginners join?

Yes. Beginners are welcome in the Riding Major during our regular sessions of 17 days. Rookie Camp (10 day sessions for ages 7 to 10 first time campers) does not include the Riding Major.

What to pack

Long pants (jodhpurs optional), riding boots, a helmet, and a safety vest if your rider uses one. Don't have boots or a helmet yet? We have extras at the barn.

A barn with a long history

Riding on this property dates back to 1913, when the Teela-Wooket camp first opened. Windridge has offered riding as a major here since 1986, and the original 22 stall barn from the Teela-Wooket era is still in use today.
